During my little hiatus from the ole blog, some big changes have been going on in my “real” life. I’ve tweeted, FB’d and instagrammed some of them, but haven’t been able to find the words to appropriately share the events with the interwebz. Here’s a little list by “life area” to catch y’all up…
I’m currently happily #funemployed or temporarily retired’ if you prefer. When we announced our move from TX to FL, I knew my work-role would be changing. The intent was for me to move to a part-time position and continue to support the department and company remotely. Long story short, it wasn’t working out in the best interest of either the company or myself so we amicably parted ways. While I absolutely know beyond a shadow of a doubt this was the right decision, it’s still a bit bittersweet. Batch was employee #8 of the company when it was a small start-up in 1999 and since then one or both of us have worked there continuously. I don’t know yet what’s next for me, but if you have an amazing opportunity, I’m all ears!
We’re finally in the house- as of Memorial Day weekend. Apparently that’s the magical moving weekend for our family as it’s the same day we moved into our last house in Houston. Although we closed at the end of April, repairs/changes kept us in the corporate apt for an extra few weeks. We L-O-V-E our house and neighborhood, but this move has been the hardest (home-wise) we can ever remember. Combining downsizing (by 1000SF), professional packers (no purge as you pack), and buying an historic property (i.e. no closets) has made getting “settled” quite a challenge. We had a very successful garage sale last weekend and things are looking and feeling MUCH better this week.
After DNFing my 3rd BQ attempt of the year (Newport Marathon on June 1- yes, a semi-secret race) I finally took some time off. My body seems to appreciate that decision and has been feeling better since- in fact, it demanded a week more than I was going to take (I got a cold- and running in the heat/humidity with a head cold was NOT happening). I’m not sure yet what my fall race plans are. There are some possibilities out there, but for now I’m just playing it by ear and seeing how my body responds to re-introduced mileage and the return of gym time. So far, so good, but it’s only been 2 weeks! Other than some small stuff (local 5Ks), the next races on my schedule are
Chattanooga to TN- October 24-25
My FIRST relay- Ragnar TN – AND we’re running it as a co-ed team so Batch gets to participate!

After saying I wasn’t going to do it, peer pressure ruled and I’m once again running the Houston Marathon. I’m excited- they made some changes to the course so it will be familiar yet different. As you can see, it’s a pretty empty calendar. So tell me, what races do I need to sign up for? I have some free time on my hands right now so I feel like I should use it for training??
There you have it. My bullet point life update. Looking forward to seeing how the next chapter unfolds- sometimes the unknown IS the most exciting part! Happy Friday, y’all!
